10on10 User’s experience – 3

10on10 has succeeded in strengthening the bond between parents and kids. Parents love to spend time in teaching math to their kids through 10on10 worksheets. 10on10 worksheets have become a synonym for math game to kids. They love them as much as they love games. One of our 10on10 parents contacted the 10on10 customer care and asked if she can have the next month’s worksheet now only. She informed the team that her kid has already finished this month’s worksheets and is asking for more worksheets. It seemed funny but that’s the truth. Kids eagerly wait for the worksheets and love to finish them.

10on10 math program is a fun activity. Kids do not find it boring as studies but playful. They like to learn through various animals and try to solve their problems in the worksheets. One of the 10on10 parents states that, “10on10 worksheets have helped my daughter to understand math in an intuitive manner. She used to cry at the sight of math book but now she is happy to solve her sums and love 10on10 worksheets.”
Kids spend at least 6-7 hours at school and then reach their saturation level. After coming back from school, studying seems like herculean task. But 10on10 math program cannot be compared with normal studying method. It is a 10 minutes fun based activity and kids love fun. They seek for fun in all the activities and dread boring activities. The use of cartoons in worksheets and puzzle created around them makes kids anxious to solve and find out the answers. It gives them a feeling of triumph when they solve the problems, which is missing in other methods of studying.

10on10 math program is an innovative way to teach the numbers to the kids. 10on10 does not use traditional classroom learning styles. Instead, it offers worksheets that are designed to be used at home, based on a “learn by doing” principle.  This is the only math learning program that uses a "paper and pencil" approach to register math concepts at a subconscious level.

Daily learning is more effective

As the kids start going to school, lifestyle changes completely. The demon of homework, textbooks, exams etc. starts haunting them. Many kids dread going to school as they miss the comfort of home. The burden of studies makes them feel stressful. Especially exam time brings nightmare and make them feel miserable.

Exams have always been the enemy for kids. Exam time can be very torturous for a kid. They need to finish whole syllabus and revise it before taking any exam. All kids go through sleepless nights and loss of appetite. According to a survey most kids were reported sick during exam time. One of the reasons behind this could be lack of proper preparation.
Daily learning can help kids in completing their syllabus on time. Kids should make daily learning as their habit. Research has shown that kids, who learn on a daily basis, do not suffer from stress during exam time. It helps them in time management and make them more disciplined.
10on10 focuses on daily learning. It is an afterschool math program that reinforces your child's math concepts, one day at a time, one worksheet a day at home. With just 10 minutes and one worksheet a day, it guarantees a strong foundation in mathematics through the use of innovatively designed math worksheets.
It covers core math concepts according to the child’s grade. The approach and depth of teaching concepts can differ from prescribed text books or school math classes.  But all concepts and topics necessary for that class are covered and reinforced through worksheets. The end objective of learning concepts at each level is not compromised, although could be different from the school’s or teacher’s approach. Ultimately, 10on10 worksheets cover all the math skills which a child needs for a brighter future.

Do you really wish to be a kid again?

“I wish I were a kid, as then my life would have been so easy”. Most of the adults think like that. They want to be kids again and live a life with no responsibilities. For most office goers the day starts like this,
·         Get up early in the morning and get ready for the office
·         If you are a working woman then prepare breakfast and lunch.
·         Pack your lunch and have breakfast.
·         Leave for the office.
·         Do usual work at the office (Take some tensions, curse office and the colleagues who sabotaged your career, finish all the pending work, get involved in some grapevine communication…….)
·         Leave for home.
·         Prepare and have dinner.
·         Go to bed.
All of the above tasks look like herculean tasks. It feels as if the entire fun element goes away once you grow up. You are barred from committing mistakes and nobody gives a damn to your tantrums. It feels as if the nervous system will break down with all the tensions in the life. And then you secretly wish if you were a kid then all your tensions will go away. But the question is, “Do you really wish to be a kid?”
Let us throw some light on the easy and comfortable life of a kid. They can do whatever they want, get lot s of pampering, throw tantrums and so much. They don’t have to think about career, money, family etc. but themselves. Now let us see how the day of a kid starts:
·         Get up early in the morning and early means way early ( 5 am L)
·         Get ready for the school.
·         Have breakfast and leave for the school.
·         Attend school ( attend morning prayer followed by rigorous exercise, endure boring classes, take surprise tests, celebrate when teacher is on leave or mourn when substitute teacher arrives,….)
·         Leave for home.
·         Go for Karate classes.
·         Leave for home
·         Go for tuition classes
·         Leave for home
·         Go for singing/dancing/swimming/or any classes.
·         Leave for home
·         Complete homework
·         Watch T.V. and switch it off if mom or dad scolds for watching TV and not studying.
·         Study again.
·         Aspire to become a doctor or engineer or architect or anything great and start preparing for that.
·         Have dinner and go to sleep.
Whew!!!! Kids have such an easy life. Well, really???  Today, parents want their kids to be good at everything. They enroll them to various extracurricular activities and expect them to perform brilliantly in everything. Kids have become mechanical now. They live a life full of expectations .They are like robots with a chip which has all the programs encoded and they need to execute all of them successfully.
Now think again if you really wish to be a kid, because you might regret it later.

Every child is not same

“Not every child has an equal talent or an equal ability or equal motivation, but they should have the equal right to develop their talent and their ability and their motivation, to make something of themselves.”
-          John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)
After Amniocentesis, the most talked about test in India is ACTN3 test or Sports gene test. In India, it was launched by Super Religare Laboratories in March ’11. This test has garnered lots of controversy from its very inception.  Now, parents are least bothered whether it’s a girl or boy but if it’s an athlete or non athlete. When I read about this test in a leading newspaper, I was shocked to know that now a strand of DNA will determine the future of so many kids. Parents with positive results were very happy as if they have hit a jackpot and on the other hand parents with negative results were bankrupt.
Parents should understand that each child is unique and have their own qualities. With some tests, we cannot determine the future of kids. Kids should be allowed to take decisions themselves. Parents should avoid spoon feeding their kids and should make them self reliant. Each kid has different likes and dislikes, some are morning persons and some sleeps late at night; some throws tantrums and some are very reserved. Every child is different and needs a different style of parenting.
DNA is unique for each and every person. No two DNA matches with each other, then drawing out a comparison among two kids is baseless because both share different strands of DNA. No matter how much we train our kids to become what we want, we cannot change their natural tendencies and characteristics. We, as parents, should accept them for who they are.
Parents tend to blame their parenting style for their kid’s failure. None of the parenting styles is perfect. In the movie, ‘Taare Zameen Par’, father used to curse his son for not getting good at studies and used to blame his wife’s style of parenting. But, he never tried to find out the reason behind his kid’s failure. This movie was based on ‘Dyslexia’, a learning disability that impairs a person's fluency or comprehension accuracy in being able to read. It prompted many parents to visit psychologists to see if their kids are suffering from the same disability.  Many parents realized that there are many uncontrollable factors which can affect their kids’ development and they should change their parenting style to suit their kids’ requirements.
Each child is good at something. Parents need to identify their talent and should learn to appreciate it. Constant comparison with siblings or friends might make kids feel depressed and undeserving. It can affect their self confidence as well. Parents should have faith in their kids. They should not impose too many restrictions and put burden of expectations on them.
Parents should understand their kids and should respect their decisions. They need to change their parenting style as per their kids’ requirements and should not be influenced by others’ parenting method. Certain tests cannot decide the future of a kid but good parenting and understanding can prepare a kid for a bright future.
