Integration of Mathematics and India | 10on10.in and Maths Olympiad

“The intellectual potentialities of the Indian nation are unlimited and not many years would perhaps be needed before India can take a worthy place in world mathematics.” – A. Weil

India has been the birthplace to many great mathematicians like Aryabhata, Bhaskara,
Brahamagupta and many more. The Decimal number system was discovered by one Indian mathematician only; Bhaskara I. India has contributed a lot in the development of mathematics.

Mathematics is an important part of Indian culture. Different branches of studies, like commerce, science and engineering, revolve around maths. Parents in India start dreaming about the future of their children right from their birth. They want them either to be engineer, doctor or architect. The burden of these high expectations comes directly onto the kids, who start burning the midnight oil to fulfill them. At very young age, they start preparing for entrance exams of engineering like AIEE, JEE etc. to get into the premium institutes like IIT. Maths is an integral part of these entrance exams and one need to be excellent at maths to clear them.

A large number of Maths Olympiads are held in India to encourage the kids to show their mathematical skills. These Olympiads are held at regional, national and international level. Priyanshi  Somani, was the youngest participant of the Mental Calculation World Cup 2010 and won the overall title. She is the only participant who has done 100% accuracy in addition, multiplication, square root till date in all four Mental Calculation World Cups and has her name recorded in limca book of world records.

At 10on10.in (India's top kids’ math educational portal for after school math practice using worksheets and games), the focus is on developing an out of the box style thinking in math so that Indian kids continue to excel in the math Olympiad as they have done in the past. Apart from Olympiad math, 10on10 focuses on improving and sharpening the basic math concepts especially for kids from the Lower kindergarten(LKG/Nursery) right through Upper Kindergarten and Grades (Standards) 1,2, 3 and 4. For more information visit 10on10.in for samples of  free kids’ math worksheets that are both downloadable and printable.

In India, math has secured an important place in the education system and will continue to be an integral part of the curriculum. 10on10 helps the kids in understanding math and thereby setting a strong foundation at an early stage. Math is like the mango among subjects, everyone wants to take a bite of it, for some this bite can be sour and for some it is eternally sweet.10on10 helps in turning undesirable sourness to eternal sweetness.
