There was a time when we used to see a kid of 8-10 years old and say Soooo Cute!!!!!!! But we had never imagined that a time would come when we no longer would be able to use this exclamation. Nowadays, kids do not want to look cute rather they want to look stylish. They want to grow old at a very younger age.
I feel sorry for this new generation of kids but can’t blame kids for this situation. It is parents’ responsibility and they are only to blame. Few days back I was going through one magazine and saw some photos of Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri Cruise. She wears all designer clothes with matching designer heels and accessories. To me, she doesn’t look like a 5 year old kid, but a spoilt kid with super rich parents who can fulfill all her wishes. Still, she is the inspiration for all those kids who want to look glamorous.
My friend Rajani has two daughters, Gowthami and Jhansi, 8 years and 15 years old respectively. Her younger daughter always imitates her teenage sister. She no longer shops from kids’ store but from the place where her sister shops. Not only this, she dresses also like her. She insists on buying spaghettis, short skirts etc. for her, so that she looks cool just like her sister. My friend has tried everything to convince her to buy appropriate clothes for her age group but all went in vain.
Nowadays, parents do not have much time at their disposal but have lots of money. They just want to fulfill all the wishes of their kids. They do not bother what their kids are wearing as long as it is looking trendy and chic. Many kids’ stores have revealed that there is shortage of buyers for the age group of 8-12 years because that age group is now interested in teenage clothing. If this trend will continue, then a time will come when it will be very difficult to differentiate among a teenager and a kid.
It’s true that kids are growing old at a younger age but only when it comes to fashion or gadgets but not in terms of responsibility. Parents should see that their kids get old with time and enjoy every bit of their childhood. They should remember that, “Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.”
